Leleiwi Beach Park

Where: South Hilo, island of Hawaiʻi
Activities: Swimming, snorkeling
Amenities: Parking, restrooms, showers, picnic tables, lifeguard

With its series of natural ponds, inlets and coves, Leleiwi Beach Park is a popular destination for snorkelers. Many tropical fish and marine life inhabit the bay, including honu (sea turtles). A sea wall lines the entire length of the beach but there is a small area at the base of the wall that serves as an entry and exit point. While there isn’t much sand for sunbathing, Leleiwi offers several pavilions, perfect for a scenic picnic. It’s also located next to Richardson Ocean Center.

Please note: Hawaiʻi's ocean and beach conditions are as unique as the islands themselves. Visit HIOCEANSAFETY.COM which constantly monitors the surf, wind, and reports from public safety officials that directly affect the conditions for safety of Hawaiian beaches. Use the hazard signs on HIOCEANSAFETY.COM as well to quickly assess conditions and help you find the appropriate beach for your visit.
