Kohanaiki County Beach Park

Where: North Kona, island of Hawaiʻi
Activities: Swimming, surfing, paddle boarding
Amenities: Parking, bathrooms, BBQ grills, camping

Located just south of Kona International Airport and the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaiʻi Authority (NELHA), Kohanaiki Beach Park fronts the upscale Kohanaiki resort, this locals’ beach is popular with surfers and paddle boarders. While the water is too rough for swimming in winter, summers bring more favorable conditions. The shoreline is primarily rocky, so you’ll want to be mindful of the water conditions. Ample shade also makes it a great place for relaxing on the beach and taking in the postcard-worthy coastline.

Please note: Hawaiʻi's ocean and beach conditions are as unique as the islands themselves. Visit HIOCEANSAFETY.COM which constantly monitors the surf, wind, and reports from public safety officials that directly affect the conditions for safety of Hawaiian beaches. Use the hazard signs on HIOCEANSAFETY.COM as well to quickly assess conditions and help you find the appropriate beach for your visit.
